24 April 2025. This month’s Food with Friends was a special gathering focused on Healthy Relationships, hosted by Anita David, WBI Director of Community Engagement. Attendees from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds came together to learn, reflect, and share ways to foster healthier relationships.

The interactive and engaging session was aimed at raising awareness and deepening understanding of what constitutes a healthy relationship. Through a mix of activities and open dialogue, participants were encouraged to actively engage and reflect on their own experiences.

One of the key activities was the “Green Flags vs. Red Flags” game, where participants worked in groups to identify behaviors that signify healthy (green flags) and unhealthy (red flags) relationship dynamics. This sparked thoughtful conversations and provided space to consider real-life scenarios, helping everyone recognize both positive and concerning patterns in relationships.

We then explored the key components of healthy relationships, as well as warning signs of unhealthy or toxic ones. These discussions offered valuable insights and helped participants develop a clearer sense of what to seek—and what to avoid—in their own interactions.

Participants also shared practical strategies for building and maintaining healthy relationships. Their contributions created a collaborative learning environment enriched by personal stories and shared wisdom.

To close the session, we held an Appreciation Circle. Everyone turned to the person on their right to share something they appreciated about them. This simple yet heartfelt activity fostered warmth, connection, and gratitude, reminding us of the importance of positive human connections.

We were also pleased to welcome Police Constable Caroline Taylor and her colleague Yvonne Baker from the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s Community Engagement Team. Their presence helped promote trust and approachability, especially for participants from countries where police are often feared or distrusted. Many took the opportunity to have informal chats, ask questions, and share concerns in a non-enforcement setting. Building these bridges is essential to strengthening our community networks and fostering resilience.

In addition, attendees had the chance to meet Nataliia Diomidova, an artist from Ukrainian, offering free art lessons for refugees at St Margaret’s Church in Southsea. Her passion and commitment were truly inspiring, and we wish her all the best with her creative endeavors.

All in all, it was a powerful and insightful session that left us inspired and better informed. These conversations help bring our communities closer, making them stronger and healthier for everyone.

We look forward to seeing you at the next Food with Friends!
