Last month, we held drop-in sessions where 22 migrant job seekers visited us to register their interest in our workshops. Through these sessions and discussions, we developed personalised employment and upskilling plans tailored to each individual’s background, experience, and career aspirations.

We also discussed opportunities such as volunteering, internships, and apprenticeships, which are valuable pathways for gaining essential UK work experience and improving employability.

Since February 2022, we have been running this initiative in partnership with City of Portsmouth College. A small cohort of migrant job-seekers has been supported through each step of the job search process to help them prepare for the UK job market. This had included CV and cover letter writing, interview preparation and workplace culture orientation.

As one of our first community initiatives, the Employment Support Programme lays the foundation for meaningful change and continues to uplift lives in ways we never imagined.

One of our previous participants reflected:

Those workshops were very useful. Sure, they taught me how to polish up CVs, write a cover letter, and nail an interview, but they were more like therapy sessions for our mental health which was very important. During those workshops, I wasn’t just learning something about the UK’s job market and work culture; I was connecting with a community that understood the struggle, and trust me, that made all the difference.
