Our September Food With Friends event featured Nadera Assim, a Podiatrist and Postgraduate Researcher from the University of Southampton, who shared her expertise on foot health.

We had another wonderful afternoon at our September community event! It was great to welcome so many attendees and children to an engaging session all about caring for our feet.
Nadera shared practical tips on foot health and choosing the right footwear, covering common issues like blisters, flat feet, and costly shoes with simple, useful solutions. We also learned what to look for when buying new shoes, how to shop for growing feet, and how to make smart choices at any budget.
Attendees enjoyed the hands-on activities and lively discussions about keeping our feet healthy through good footwear, exercise, and care routines. It was eye-opening to explore a topic we often overlook but that affects our overall wellbeing.

As a lovely bonus, Nadera gifted the adults a small footcare pack with tips on how to use it, a thoughtful surprise! Thank you, Nadera, for an informative and inspiring session.
Our two PHU NHS Trust trained blood pressure champions kindly offered blood pressure checks to attendees. It was a great opportunity for everyone to check and discuss their blood pressure.

We were also pleased to have Yvonne Baker from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary join us, offering attendees informal advice, support, and information about how to keep safe and local policing.
Last but not least, Isabelle Séné, Chair of Loaves of Love, joined us to share information and invite women to her baking sessions. Loaves of Love is a wonderful project that helps marginalised women rebuild their confidence through the art of baking.

A big thank-you to the National Lottery Community Fund for supporting Food With Friends. We’re already looking forward to our October event!
