23 February 2023. We are delighted to announce that we have been granted a second Community Inclusion Grant by Portsmouth City Council to fund a new project targeting digital inequality.  It was a pleasure to attend the award ceremony presented at The Guildhall alongside 32 awarded community leaders and organisations.

Back in November 2022, Work Better Innovations received a Community Inclusion Grant from Portsmouth City Council to launch Food with Friends – a hybrid event series combining healthy eating with education on health and wellbeing.

This was also the year when the funding scheme was first launched. The Community Inclusion Grant scheme is aimed at projects to:

  • advance community cohesion and diversity
  • promote equality, diversity and inclusion
  • support community and residents with protected characteristics
  • tackle inequalities

Fast forward a year later, we have been invited back to The Guildhall to celebrate the news of receiving a second Community Inclusion Grant for a new project titled Developing Digital Skills for Job Search among Minorities.

The project seeks to improve employment outcomes for minority and migrant job seekers by targeting digital inequalities. Through training digital skills, participants will be able to better respond to an increasingly online-based job market.

Secondly, the project will address the issue of internet privacy and safe web navigation by raising awareness of the benefits, as well as the potential downsides associated with the online sphere.

In addition to the two training workshops on LinkedIn and digital privacy, we will collaborate with POOW Media to offer participants the chance of having their professional headshot taken to further enhance their employment prospects.

The project is an extension of our hallmark Employment Support for Migrants Programme, which seeks to increase Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the local economy and beyond.

We were delighted to share the stage alongside the other winning organisations such as Sustrans, Portsmouth City of Sanctuary, The YOU Trust, Portsmouth Down Syndrome Association, 432 Nomads, Toucan Diversity, Wet Wheels Solent and many more, committed to fostering a more inclusive, diverse, and equitable vision of society.

We thank our funder and the event organiser, Portsmouth City Council, for providing an opportunity to exchange ideas and connect with delegates of other initiatives. These initiatives do not only reflect the community needs on the ground but are inspired by personal experiences.
