Taiwan Business Forum for Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence

14 March 2024. WBI announces and opens for registration the Taiwan Business Forum for Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence, taking place on 9 April 2024 in Taipei. The project, co-organised with the Institute of Business and Human Rights, represents the first international business forum dedicated to the issue of human rights and environmental due diligence in the Taiwanese business context.

More than a year in the making and supported by the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan and CommonWealth Magazine and Target, the Taiwan Business Forum for Human Rights and Environmental Due Diligence is rooted in the ambition to bring about a sustained and dynamic local business momentum for the corporate responsibility to respect human rights and environmental protection in Taiwan.

It arrives at a turning point for Taiwan, the sixth-largest economy in East and Southeast Asia and the twenty-first largest economies worldwide. Taiwan is revising its National Action Plan for Business and Human Rights in 2024.

By bringing together international and local business leaders on corporate citizenship, our aim is to share knowledge and build sustained local momentum for corporate human rights and environmental due diligence.

The one-day Forum will present policy briefs to ground and inform each panel discussions on the following themes:

  1. Operationalising Corporate Responsibility to Respect Human Rights in Taiwan: Current State and Challenges
  2. Labour Migration to Taiwan: Leveraging Responsible Recruitment for Sustainable Development
  3. Sustainability in Action: Strategies for Taiwanese Enterprises in a Changing Climate

The policy brief series was produced under Work Better Innovations’ collaboration with the School of Law, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, the Taiwan Project for Business and Human Rights.

The first brief, titled “Operationalising Corporate Responsibility to Respect Human Rights in Taiwan: Current State and Challenges” can already be found digitally here in both Chinese and English. The two remaining briefs will be released in the run-up to the Forum.

In addition to WBI and IHRB, we have confirmed speakers from:

It is our hope that this Forum, by bringing together international and local corporate leaders for corporate global citizenship, will spur on a sustained and dynamic local movement for the corporate responsibility to respect human rights in Taiwan.
– Dr. Bonny Ling, Executive Director at WBI.
